What an absolutely fabulous week! There hasn't been a week this stellar since all my Transmetropolitan re-orders came in at once.
Absolute Sandman Volume 3: That God my trades were still in awesome, trade-in-able condition, or else I don't think I would have been able to pick this one up. Vise statements...suck. But this was so worth it, not like I was doubting it would be or anything. Even killjoy coworker pointing out that I'm paying $100 for 16 issues couldn't dampen my love. I get way more than just 16 issues. I get specials! Scripts! Sketches! Splash pages! And a sexy sexy binding! Is it just we, or was even the individual cardboard packaging they were shipped in sexy (did they do that before? This is the first time I've actually been present for a shipment of these things). There was one minor downer though. There are some pictures of the final "Ramadan" statue in the back. They just remind me how old and dusty mine is. There's premanent dust on that ststue...dust I can never seem to get off. But the one in the picture's all clean...and it's black are all...welll...black, while mine are really just a dark gray. But that's all. Other than that...LOVE!
Invincible #50: Oooh, it's all super-sized and landmark-y. Can't really say much about this one without going all spoiler-y, but I will say it was mind-blowing. My world has been shifted slightly to the left. Pretty awesome all around, but I'm actually gonna say I enjoyed Cecil's backstory way more than the main story. Maybe that's just because other events were so fresh in my mind...made it a little more emotional...but it was still full of wow. Not sure if I'm enjoying this costumes change in issue 51, but maybe it'll grow on me.
The Goon #25: Holy crap, all these plot-changing, pivolat milestone moments!! I don't know how Eric Powell can force me to go through so many emotions in a single comic! Like the direction it's going in though...definately going to have to pick up both covers of #26.
Heroes Series 1 - Sylar AF: It's not a comic or anything, I've just been waiting for it for a while. I think I bought it just for the brain...and the painting. The figure itself is kinda meh (it be better if I could replace that stupid, sparkly, telekenisis hand with a normal, bad-ass, Sylar hand).
EDIT: Nevermind, Sylar's awesome (I bought him all unpackaged...just found his other head slice-y hand!) _________________

Wow, its been a while since i've done one of these, and I'm freakin super glad that someone has picked up my slack. Thanks CQ i owe you +1 coke.
Now for my picks:
Sky Doll #2 of 3: Sky Doll is the flagship book in Marvel's newest venture with Soleil books from Europe. They have taken popular and well crafted books from overseas and translated them for our reading pleasures. I myself have been looking for original copies of "Sky Doll" and am happy to see that Marvel has decided to pick it up. Sky Doll is the story of Noa, a life-like android built to serve the needs of the masses. She comes across the two 'missionaries' who accidentally help her escape from her 'master'. She soon finds that she just might be more than a 'doll'. The artwork in this book is absolutely beautiful, and deserves to be picked up on that merit alone. This is for sure my #1 pick.
Green Lantern Corps #25: The GLC have been sent on a mission to find the remaining Sinestro Corp rings and stumble upon the home planet of the Black Mercy's. I've been a fan of the whole 'Black Mercy' concept, and this issue gives us the origins of the intergalactic plant.
The Twelve #6 of 12: The original series by J. Michael Stracyznski and Chris Weston continues to amaze with every issue that I read. The Twelve focuses on 12 long forgotten war-heroes who aided the Allies in WWII, and how they re-assimilate with modern life after being frozen for over 60 years. The main story of this issue shows us the possible true origin of the teams powerhouse, 'Rockman'. Also in the issue we see how Dynamic Man deals with being hit on by a guy and what becomes of the Laughing Man after his altercation with the law. For those of you who're looking for a good read, this is the book to be picking up.
Invincible #50: Would the issue that took us a few extra weeks to get into our grubby little hands, be worth that wait? After the cliffhanger ending that 49 left us with, you bet your sweet putty filled buttocks it was. Much like Cult_Queen, i cant say much without spoiling the thing, but my favourite pages were the splash page in the middle of the book, and the last page. I really have to get my hands on the original art for the last page. Also chalk up another fan for the Cecil back story, that was very interesting.
Two Mentions from this week:
Titans #3: The story is marginally interesting, but I'm a big fan of how Joe Benitez's artwork looks in this issue. I dont know if its the work of the four (yes there were 4) different inkers in the book or the way Edgar Delgado colored the book, but there were times when I was really digging Joe's work. (it was probably a combination of both the inkers and colors, because there were times i noticed the 'stress lines' of Joe's work and there were times when they weren't even there on other characters. Less is more, i guess.)
Burn #2: A book that supposedly took Arcana two years to publish. (I'm only saying this because I notice that the art is marked '05 on the cover. Anyway, this is local up and coming artist Camilla D'errico's first creator owned series and its published through our local boys at Arcana. If you are a fan of the manga Blame! by Tsutomu Nihei then you might be a fan of this book. The book is a story of a boy named 'Burn' and how he deals with his world getting turned upside down. In a world where Humans and Mechs can live with each other, what happens when a human and mech 'become each other'. That is what Burn's life is, and what this story is about. More can be told in this Link where CBR delves further into the world of 'Burn'. Plus, im a big fan of Camilla's work and I'd do anything to help support local artists. Im telling you guys, you'll definitely be seeing her name a lot more often especially after that book with Grant Morrison takes off.
Well thats it from me folks. Enjoy the reading, even though mine was like.... five days late......
