UPDATE (2007 July 17) : This thread is to encourage you (and others) to ask Vancouver library to order comic books.
If you suggest a purchase to VPL, I hope you'll post a reply in this thread.

(Discussion thread for NON-comics suggestions for VPL at http://www.vancitycomics.com/viewtopic.php?t=136 )

VPL suggest form is at http://www.vpl.ca/library/details/suggest_a_purchase1

(2008 March 4 update: form at new URL (above). Previous URL was vpl.ca/online/SuggestedPurchase.html )

(Posted to previous VanCityComics forum on 2006 Jun 6 )

<HR>

Update/addition : If you go to http://www.nvdpl.ca/research/iloans.htm and look at the bottom ,
you'll see "Search Outlook Online" with button that says "Begin Searching". Click on the button and you'll end up at site which searches British Columbia libraries (public and academic)

PostPosted: Tue Sep 11, 2007 5:27 pm    Post subject: asked VPL to get Preacher vol 4 (now at library) Reply with quote

Putting strike-through original post (below) because VPL now has two copies of Preacher Vol. 4: Ancient History

[s]Posting this to forum because I figure that the more people request this book, the more likely Vancouver Public Library will purchase a copy.

Below is what I put into VPL's suggestion form (form at http://www.vpl.ca/online/SuggestedPurchase.html ):
Title: Preacher Vol. 4: Ancient History
Author: Garth Ennis, S Pugh, C Ezquerra and R. Case
Format: Book
Publisher: DC Comics
Publication date: 1998
ISBN: 156389405X
Intended audience : Adult
How did you hear about this title? : various publications and websites
Why should this tite be in the library ? Preacher saga is in nine volumes. (library only has first 3 volumes)

"Thank you.
Your suggestion has been received. It will be forwarded to the appropriate Subject Division staff for consideration."

If you also make a suggestion/request for this book, I hope you'll post a reply to this thread.[/s]

I filled out the form, and then I dont have a library card number.

If/when I get one again I will definately fill this form out.

Does anyone know if they have the runaways vol1 hardcover in the library? If not, that should also definately be a suggestion for them to pick up.

They do not have the Runaways HC (or the digests). They do, apparently, have all of Y The Last Man (also by BKV) and the first Ex Machina. I've never actually borrowed a TPB from the library, but I'll definitely request some stuff through the site for other comic readers.

I read some 21 Down and District X and enjoyed them.

Which collection do you think should we ask VPL to get first?
District X vol 1: Mr. M
or
21 DOWN Softcover ?

(Posted to previous VanCityComics forum on 2006 Jul 23 )

Oh sweet!
VPL has ordered TWO copies of Best American Comics 2006 (edited by Harvey Pekar and Anne Elizabeth Moore).

I asked The Comicshop to get me a copy, but cancelled my order a few days later because
*A* I've enjoyed the editing of Joyce Brabner, but I don't know what kind of selections Pekar & Moore will make
*B* the BAC 2006 will be about $30 and I was worried I wouldn't get $30 of enjoyment out of it
*C* moving out of current apartment at end of August, so I should be saving money so I can pay for moving-related expenses

Did any of you start requesting DVDs to your favorite shows?

I was hoping to request a few cartoons that I watched as a kid.

I work at the main branch of VPL and I can say that I am very impressed with some of the stuff we've been getting! Keep sending them your requests. The more they hear from comic readers, the more comics they'll buy! Smile

UPDATE (2007 July 17): Thank you everyone, requesting this book (Grounded) was a success. On 2007 July 17, I noticed VPL has TWO copies on order.

[s]Checked various libraries to see if they had Grounded TPB by Mark Sable and Paul Azaceta.

NOT at VPL, BPL (Burnaby), RPL (Richmond), NWPL (New West) NOR at Coquitlam/Port Moody catalog search

ISBN: 1582406413 (via bn.com)

Requested VPL get Grounded (via http://www.vpl.ca/online/SuggestedPurchase.html )

Title : Grounded
Author : Mark Sable and Paul Azaceta
Format: Book
Publisher : Image Comics
Publication date : August 2006
ISBN : 1582406413
Intended audience : Teen

How did you hear about this title? Bought, read and enjoyed first issue.

Why should this title be in the library ? Interesting idea, focusing on a teen who wants to be a superhero but has NO powers. (How about getting just one copy, since I assume VPL has limited budget)

[*] Please notify me if you decide not to order this title.
[*] If ordered, please place a hold request for me
