Wooow Really awesome stuff! I will definitely give your work a read when i have the chance. I love the style you are using for the 24 hour comic and the really loose sketches.

Hope you will post more!

Ha. So much for regular posting, eh? Embarassed

Hmmm.. let's see what I've been up to since last post...
I've finished my 5 page short story for a Christmas-gone-wrong anthology called, "Dear Santa, Let Me Explain...". The pages were drawn and inked relatively fast but I took on the role of colourist, which is totally new to me, and that slowed me down some. I think I did a pretty good job considering those were the first pages I've coloured. Here's a 3 panel sequence from page 2:

I then jumped into the art for a 14 page story in another cool anthology. This one is called "Trickster" which comprises of about 20 trickster tales as told by Native American storytellers and visually interpreted into comics form. I've illustrated a Raven trickster story by writer/storyteller, John Active. I'm really happy with the way this one came out. Again, I took on the role as colourist and I feel like I really got what I was hoping to get, in terms of color and simplicity. Here's page 6 from that:

I'm just about to start working on a few series pitches. Both are re-workings of older pitches but we're bringing in an editor to help tighten them up.

Thanks for looking!

Good job with the coloring. Did you end up using digital colors with Photoshop? I've been thinking about trying to color with Photoshop but haven't gotten around to learning much about it.

Thanks!
Yeah, I went with Photoshop to colour all my pages. It was kind of fun to do, actually. I was pretty slow at it, especially if you consider that I did a very basic colour job ie. almost no gradients and zero use of filters. Most colorists would probably look at my pages and think "Hmmm... that's a good start...". Laughing
But, like I said, I visualized a really basic, simple style of colouring for the line work on those pages... so, I think they fit the bill.
I took out the "DC's Guide to Comic Book Coloring and Letterering" after it was recommended by a pro colourist. It was perfect for learning the basics.

I've been doing tons of character sketches and designs for a couple of projects that are currently undergoing some script tweaks. Most of them I'm going to keep out of the public spotlight, for now. But, I'm willing to share one or two... from time to time.

This one is a character from a "new" project called, Braids of the Gorgon. Actually, this book has been in the making for many years, about 8 years to be more accurate. Writer Ken Faggio and I started working on Braids way back in 2000 and we managed to get 2 full issues done before it was put on hold. Truthfully, it was all my fault that it got "put on hold". I was offered a short story in A. David Lewis's Mortal Coils book. That then turned into another which then turned into 5 years of continuous projects with various writers, all of which kept me from being able to go back to Braids. The project was never far from my thoughts, though.

Recently, when I found I had a gap in my schedule, I went about contacting Ken and seeing if he was still game to work on Braids. Luckily, he was! We called in editor James Powell and we're in the process of knocking off the rust and getting Braids up and going. So, while Ken and James do their magic, I'm sharping up my Greek Mythology art game.

I'm working hard on the new Kill All Monsters! pitch pages. Michael and I have decided to hold off on showing any substantial images for the book while we work our way through it. But, for the sake of having something to look at (as this is an artist's blog), I'm posting this look at my process for working out a particular panel.

That last image is pretty much ready to ink, although I think I may put something in the foreground to help give the reader a sense of the monster's scale.

One week until I'm climbing aboard an Airbus A319 and traveling to Charlotte, NC to attend my very first Heroes Con! Late last year, I decided that I wasn't going to go back to the San Diego Comic Con this year but I still wanted to get out to a good sized event during the summer months. I've always heard great things about Heroes Con, so I put 1 and 1 together and now I'm a week away from finally meeting some amazing talents that I've known only through the internet!

Back from Heroes Con and now I'm working on the Kill All Monsters! pitch pages. Here's a rough sketch for one of the panels that I'm working on for the book.

Thanks for looking!
Very Happy

Just a quick update, for those of you following along...

I'm doing the art for a 7 page backup story in Todd Dezago and Craig Rousseau's Perhapanauts! The story was written by Todd and both creators seem to like my pages so much that Todd is starting to put together ideas for another story for my to illustrate!

Anyway, here's the pencils for page 1:
