Starting this thread to encourage others to send Richmond Public Library suggestions on comic books to buy.

note: I hope you'll avoid suggesting DC/Marvel superheroes (Richmond library has OODLES of Batman, Superman, JLA, X-Men etc)

(Discussion thread for non-comics suggestions for Richmond library at http://www.vancitycomics.com/viewtopic.php?t=135 )

Richmond's Make a Suggestion webpage:
http://www.yourlibrary.ca/purchasesuggestion.cfm

Form only asks for six (6) things:
TITLE:
ISBN/ASIN
AUTHOR Firstname:
AUTHOR Lastname:
category (Fiction, Non-Fiction or Children's & Young Adult)
What format? (Book, VHS, DVD, Music CD, Audiobook or CD-ROM)

They do NOT ask you for your name or library number. So easy!

If you go to http://www.nvdpl.ca/research/iloans.htm and look at the bottom ,
you'll see "Search Outlook Online" with button that says "Begin Searching". Click on the button and you'll end up at Outlook Online, a site which searches British Columbia libraries (public and academic)

Also requested :

TITLE: Warriors: The Lost Warrior, volume 1
ISBN/ASIN : 0-06-124061-3

More info at http://www.tokyopop.com/S-1845/1.html

I was going to request latest volume (volume 9) of Y The Last Man but Richmond already has it on order:

"Author : Vaughan, Brian K. (MATURE SF)
Title : Y: the last man, vol. 9: motherland
Publisher/Date : H. B. Fenn and Company Ltd. MAY 2007
Format : Book
Call Number : ON ORDER "

I checked "Outlook Online" and apparently no public libraries in BC have Volume 9 of Y The Last Man.

(Reply posted by Danger to previous VanCityComics forum on 2007 July 5 )

I made a suggestion of Pride of Baghdad, which is pretty much the only one I could think of off the top of my head.

I may start with the entire fables line if I get time.

Hi Earth! Tis me, Rye!

I didn't like Pride of Baghdad very much. Meh.

did you request Runaways? That's a great book kids will like too. And anything by Allan More, I think everyone needs to read Top Ten.

Heya Rye, glad to see you here.

I kinda enjoyed it (as much as one can enjoy a story with that kind of ending *avoids giving spoilers*), but Danger was the one who asked Richmond library to get a copy.

Runaways is at other GVRD libraries, so I haven't requested Runaways yet.

Only Top Ten that Richmond library has is Top 10: The forty-niners and I enjoyed that.
I've now asked Richmond library to buy Top 10 Book 1 (hardcover version)

-- submitted --
TITLE: Top 10 Book 1 (hardcover version)
ISBN/ASIN : 1563896575
AUTHOR Firstname: [S]Brian Michael [/S] Alan
AUTHOR Lastname : [S]Bendis[/S] Moore ( ISBN-10: 1563896575 ) ( ISBN-13: 978-1563896576 )
Is this item: Fiction
What format? : Book

(author name corrected 2007 Sep26)

Alan Moore wrote Top i0, not Bendis.

http://www.amazon.com/Top-Ten-Book-Alan-Moore/dp/1563896680

I tried searching the VPL web site for trades, I found it near impossible. Searches for authors and titles would turn up nothing, searches for publishers was a little more successful. It's been a while though, maybe they improved it.

PostPosted: Mon Sep 01, 2008 10:53 pm    Post subject: Richmond library: suggest they buy Usagi Yojimbo Reply with quote

A friend mentioned finding his Usagi's in his basement and so I decide to see if there were any Usagi Yojimbo books at Richmond library.

Richmond library has NONE!

TITLE * : Usagi Yojimbo Book 1: The Ronin
ISBN/ASIN * : 978-1435213791
AUTHOR Firstname: Stan
AUTHOR Lastname * : Sakai
Is this item * : Teen
What format? * : Book

"Your suggestion has been submitted. Thank you!"

(Fantagraphics said ISBN was 0-93019-335-0 , but Richmond library website rejected that ISBN "Your ISBN entry must be 10 or 13 digits and have no letters except the letter X!". I went to amazon.com and used ISBN for the library
binding version.
